Importing products

This page covers bringing products into your catalog from a spreadsheet, a Ticimax store or Nebim, and undoing an import that went wrong.

Import a spreadsheet

  1. Go to Catalog, press Import…, then New import.
  2. Under Bring products in from…, choose An order list.
  3. Drop the file onto Upload an order list or choose it. Use an Excel file (.xlsx) or a CSV, with one row per size.
  4. Check which column holds what. Katalane suggests a column for each field. Change any that are wrong. Fields that have a column are listed under Mapped, and fields with no column under Not in this file.
  5. If the file has no brand column, type the brand under This file is all one brand.
  6. Press See what this would do. Nothing is written yet. The preview shows how many products the file makes, how many rows were read and any rows that were skipped.
  7. Read What you're giving up, which lists the fields this file doesn't provide and what that means for later steps. You can still import.
  8. Press Import N products. The import keeps running if you close the page.
  9. When it finishes, the receipt shows new products and updated products. Press Send them to a pipeline to start work on the new products.

What each column gives you

Two things are required. Every other column unlocks something later.

ColumnRequired?Without it
Product codeYesThe row can't be imported because nothing identifies it. A Style code counts too.
BrandYes. Use a column, or type one brand for the whole fileKatalane can't look for the product's images on the brand's website. Rows with no brand are skipped and counted.
Color code or Color nameNoColorways merge, and one product ends up with another colorway's images.
Design / fabric codeNoProducts that differ only by fabric become one product.
Style codeNoProducts can't be grouped by style. Only needed when the file has a style code and a separate product code.
SizeNoEach product gets one placeholder size, and per-size barcodes have nowhere to go.
BarcodeNoProducts can't be matched to a store listing. A barcode belongs to a size, not a product.
Product nameNoProducts can be told apart only by code, which makes reviewing them slow.
CategoryNoKatalane works out the category from the photographs instead.
GenderNoKatalane works out the gender from the photographs instead, and gets it wrong often enough to matter.
SeasonNoProducts can't be grouped by season.
CompositionNoKatalane has no fabric detail unless the brand's own page states it. Katalane never works out composition from photographs.
FitNoKatalane works out fit from the photographs, which is a guess where the brand already knows.
Image referenceNoImages the brand already supplied are skipped, and Katalane looks for them on the web instead.

Quantity, Purchase price and Delivery window are recognized but not imported. The import lists them under Found, and not imported.

Files with several brands

A single order list can hold many brands. Katalane files each product under its own brand, so one file can add products across several brands. If two spellings look like the same brand, the preview lists them under Spellings that might be the same brand. They're never merged without asking you.

Undo an import

  1. Go to Catalog and press Import… to open Imports. It lists every import with its file, date and product count.
  2. Press Revert… on the import you want to undo.
  3. Read what it will remove. Katalane tells you whether any of those products already have images or generated work. Generated work can't be recovered.
  4. Press Revert import, or Keep it to back out.

A revert removes only the products that import created. Products the import only updated existed before it ran, so they're left alone.

Import from a Ticimax store

Importing from Ticimax only reads the store. It never changes it.

  1. Go to Settings, open Stores and press Connect a Ticimax store….
  2. Enter the Store service address and API key, both from this store's Ticimax settings, and press Connect. The store joins the workspace, so everyone in it can import from it.
  3. Go to Catalog, press Import…, then New import, and choose A Ticimax store.
  4. The first time, press Read my store. This brings your whole store catalog into Katalane. A large store takes a few minutes, and you can leave the screen while it runs.
  5. Browse, filter and pick the products you want, then go to Check.
  6. Choose whether to tick Read what it brings in. It's priced on the screen, and the import itself is free.
  7. Press Import N products.

The store's own product images come in with the products. To pick up changes in the store later, press Refresh from the store in Settings → Stores.

Import from Nebim

Nebim brings in product data (codes, colors, sizes and fields such as brand, season and category), but no images.

  1. Go to Settings, open Stores and press Connect Nebim.
  2. Enter the Server address (the public address your IT team opened for Katalane), Database, User group, User name and Password, then press Connect.
  3. Go to Catalog, press Import…, then New import. Under A Nebim account, press Import from Nebim.
  4. Narrow down what to bring in by brand, season or product group, or by Changed in Nebim since a date. Then press Continue.
  5. On the check page, products are matched by Product code and color. The page lists what's new, what's already in your catalog and what won't be imported.
  6. Import. The receipt offers Send them to a pipeline, and Revert… if you need to undo it.

Good to know

  • Older Excel files (.xls) aren't accepted. Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets, save it as .xlsx and upload that.
  • Nothing is written until you've seen what the import would do.
  • The import itself costs no credits. Reading imported products, when selected, costs 1 credit per product. See Credits.
  • Nebim counts product codes, which is one code in every color. Katalane counts products, which is one code in one color. So the two numbers differ.
  • If Nebim reports Your IT needs to install the Katalane procedure, your IT team has a setup step to finish on the Nebim side first.
