Recipes, models and backdrops
This page covers choosing what Katalane makes for your products, trying a recipe on one product before running it on many, and choosing who wears the clothes and what's behind them.
A recipe is a set of steps run over each product's images. It decides which images get made. Steps that need no AI cost nothing. Steps that make a new image cost credits per image.
The recipes that come with Katalane
Go to Recipes. Your own recipes are listed under Yours, and Katalane's under Katalane.
| Recipe | What it makes | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Photoshoot on your model | A new set of photos for each product: the shots its category needs, on your model and backdrop. | The brand's photos are mixed, cropped or not on a model. |
| Swap the model in the brand's photos | Keeps the brand's photos as they are and puts your model in them. Photos without a person are left alone. | The brand's own model shots are good and you only need your model in them. |
| Prepare supplier images for the webshop | Makes the brand's own photos one size, on one background. Makes no new images. |
Photoshoot on your model picks the right shots for each product by its category, so a bag gets a bag's shots and a shoe a shoe's. Each recipe card shows how many images it generates per product.
Try a recipe on one product
Before running a recipe on hundreds of products, try it on one.
- In Recipes, press Try on a recipe (or Open, then use the try panel).
- Under Next try, press Pick a product.
- Choose which of its photographs to use (Choose, or Use all).
- Check Cast (the model) and Backdrop and size. Press Change to pick a different model.
- Press Try it. Once the price is worked out, the button shows the most the try can cost, as Try it · up to N credits.
- Under Result, each row shows What went in beside What came out. Earlier tries are kept below. Press Show more tries to see them all.
If the image model refuses to make an image from a photograph, that image shows Refused, and nothing is charged for it.
Make your own recipe
- Press Make a copy on one of Katalane's recipes to get a copy under Yours that you can change. Katalane's original stays as it is. Photoshoot on your model can't be copied, because it chooses its steps per category.
- Or press New recipe to build one from scratch out of steps, shots and backdrops. These are listed on the Steps, Shots and Backdrops tabs.
Models
A model is a description plus one reference photograph. The photograph is what keeps the same person in every shot.
- Go to Library. Katalane's models are grouped under Women, Men and Kids. They can't be edited, but you can use them.
- To make your own, press Cast a model.
- Enter a Name and describe Who they are in four to six concrete features: age, hair, skin, face, build and height. A short label produces a stereotype rather than a person.
- Choose who they are Presenting: female, male, boy or girl.
- Press Cast. Katalane generates the reference photograph, and your model appears under Yours.
When you photograph products in a pipeline, you choose the model under Who is in them. When you try a recipe, you choose it under Cast.
Backdrops
Katalane comes with backdrops in five groups: studio, wall, interior, exterior and surface. Examples include Studio white, Warm plaster wall, Loft window light, Street, open shade and Linen. They're all listed on the Backdrops tab in Recipes. You choose one under Backdrop and size, when trying a recipe or photographing products.
Good to know
- Under Backdrop and size you also choose the image size: 1K, 2K or 4K. 2K is the default. Bigger images cost more. See Credits.
- Trying a recipe needs edit access. Viewers can see everything on the page.
- A recipe a pipeline uses is chosen under What it makes when you create the pipeline. See Pipelines.
- The garment always comes from the product's own photographs. The recipe decides the model, pose, framing, light and backdrop.
